Suspension

I have to be honest, I am thoroughly intrigued by the underground world of suspension and body modification. From those that do it ritualistically and have a spiritual experience to those that just want to try it to see what it is all about, from what I have heard there is a common theme that runs throughout— it is painfully euphoric. I was first introduced to this concept of “hooking” and no not prostitution, but being suspended by large meat hooks through piercings in the skin, from a girl that I knew whose sister got hooked (literally) on suspending. This girl’s sister had gotten into piercing and tattoos, and was a regular at a local tattoo parlor. She ended up becoming very friendly with one of the artists and was then extended the private invitation to their own almost secret society. She started hanging out with them weekly and watching people pay for pain, and while at points she said it was hard to watch there was something about the whole thing that these people kept coming back for more, and each time had desire to try something new. Finally she ended up trying it as well. The first time she suspended from her back the next time her chest, and so she too became part of this cult following and began exploring new ways to feel the endorphin rush. What was so wild about the whole thing is not only was this its own social network it was a very lucrative business, especially because of people like me who are drawn to the pictures, the stories and the curiosity eventually gets you!
