Safety pins… Those things sure aren’t that safe! I know so many people who have used safety pins to pierce everything from their ears to their forearms. They have even used them to etch into their skin to make scar tattoos. My mom actually got her ears pierced way back in the day using clothes pins- to stop blood flow and numb- and a boiled straight pin, so the idea has been around a long time. While I don’t recommend doing this, it is important that people sanitize the pin because home piercings not done by a professional tend to get infected and that is something you really don’t want to mess with.

It is frustrating to lose your body jewelry or an essential part of it, but more importantly to be aware of the dangers if you have accidentally swallowed it.
If you have lost an end to your jewelry you can do a very temporary fix with normal household items like tape or wax. A longer term and more sanitary solution is to make it a practice to purchase a few extra ends to your favorite pieces or even buy 3 of a specific piece, just in case one gets lost, this way you will still have a pair. Another suggestion to avoid having to get repierced in the event that you lose your jewelry is to just keep a random extra piece that maybe you purchase on clearance that you can put back in, so your piercing doesn’t close up, until you are able to get a replacement that you want. A minimal investment that can save you a lot in the long run!
Especially with oral piercings, there is the possibility of swallowing part or all of the jewelry. If this were to happen, most likely the piece will pass through your digestive system smoothly without any complications. What you need to look out for, obviously if it gets lodged or you feel like you are choking, the assistance of someone to do the Heimlich may be necessary. Otherwise pay attention if you get a fever, vomiting, pain, inflammation or bleeding, this requires immediate attention.

So many people have skin sensitivities and don’t realize it until they have bought a pair of earrings or a necklace that ends up causing a rash or a more serious outbreak that can lead to infection. Nickel Free is the way to go for those with sensitive skin, however people get stuck and only look for this designator, but the great news is that the answer is simple, affordable and stylish!
Just look for Titanium, Acrylic, Bioplast, high quality Surgical Steel and, of course, 24k gold. These are abundant and some of the most irritant free materials available, and this opens up a world of possibilities because the styles, sizes/gauges can cross all age brackets and taste.
