| Where NOT to get a belly button ring!!! |
| This is the story of my navel piercing, and I hope it will serve as a
warning to anyone reading this of where NOT to get a belly button piercing
done!
I was 15 and a friend and I wanted to get matching belly button rings. If you’re under 16, you need parental consent for any piercing, so we went to the one place we knew didn’t ask for ID … the flea market in the next town over! I know, what were we thinking???!!! All I can say is we were 15… obviously not thinking! I got pierced with what I was told was a hypo-allergenic, surgical steel belly ring. It was surgical steel, but I’ve since been told that that doesn’t necessarily mean hypo-allergenic. Needless to say, it got infected, but instead of being smart (again… I was 15) and going to an actually piercing parlor (or maybe even a doctor???) to get the offending belly ring taken out, I pried it out myself, and replaced it with a gold navel ring. Sooooooooooooooo painful! I do NOT recommend ever doing that yourself, and if you’re getting a belly piercing, or any other kind of piercing, I highly suggest going with a gold navel ring, or anything better than basic surgical steel. Lucky for me, I did not end up with tetanus, or anything else you might expect to pick up at a flea market, and the piercing healed just fine after I replaced it with the gold belly button ring. But please let this be a warning to anyone who might be considering a shady piercing place just to avoid your parents finding out! There are much better ways of going about it… like fake IDs! Lol!
