Expanders
I started stretching my ear lobes just a few months ago. It takes a while to do it, and I’m still using tapers for the stretching process. I had a professional get it started for me and show me how to do it properly. The guy told me not to rush, and never, under any circumstances, to skip a gauge with the expanders. No worries! I’m loving the results, but it hurts like hell sometimes!!! A little tip for all you ear expanding virgins out there (since I’m such a pro now :P) … if you’re doing both ears, stretch one lobe at a time! Trust me, if you stretch them both at the same time, you’ll be stuck sleeping flat on your back, or face down in your pillow. And if you roll to one side in your sleep, it wakes you up – FAST! If you do one ear at a time, you can at least sleep on your other side while your newly stretched lobe is getting used to the expander. The guy at the piercing shop who started me out suggested vitamin E oil to keep the skin from tearing and to make the stretching process easier and less painful, and he was totally right. The best thing is to lube your lobes really good and let the oil soak in and soften up the skin before you put the lobe expanders in. It’s really key to have patience with this, and know that you’re going to be spending a bit of money on jewelry as you go up sizes. I bought my first tapers at the piercing shop that started me, but now I’ve started buying curved tusk expanders from FreshTrends since it’s cheaper, and the quality’s just as good as the ones you find in piercing shops. I haven’t decided yet how far up in gauges I want to go, but I can say for one thing that the process is really addictive. Yeah, it hurts a little, but the results are awesome, and I have no regrets!
