Setting Types

Our diamond flat back earrings—also known as labret studs—are handcrafted in-house to sit flush against the ear for a secure, comfortable fit. We offer three best-selling setting styles, each designed to balance comfort, sparkle, and sophistication.

Our low-set martini prong covers as little of the diamond as possible, allowing light to enter freely for maximum brilliance. The high-set basket prong has a slightly taller profile, which lets even more light pass through the stone for exceptional sparkle. For a sleek, modern look, our bezel setting encases the diamond in a smooth rim of gold, offering a minimalist profile that won’t snag on hair, towels, or clothing.

We also have a wonderful selection of other settings and diamond shapes. From our accent Perlage setting to princess cut diamonds, the variety is fantastic.

Unlike mass-produced earrings, every FreshTrends setting is engineered specifically for piercing-safe fine jewelry, combining refined aesthetics with lasting comfort and craftsmanship.

Metal Color & Quality

Quality of material is very important in piercing jewelry, that is why we do not use nickel in our body jewelry. All of our body jewelry is crafted using solid 14k gold; it is not gold plated, or gold filled. A full analysis of our metals is available for review here. We laboratory test our gold stock to ensure our jewelry adheres to the highest standards.

14k Yellow Gold – Classic yellow gold with rich yellow tones.

14k White Gold – We use palladium as the alloy to obtain the white color instead of nickel for our white gold. Each piece is rhodium plated for a bright white finish.

14k Rose Gold – We use no plating in our rose gold. The pink color is made by adding additional copper to the gold.

Length

How to Measure Your Flat Back For A Custom Fit

The length of your piercing jewelry refers to the wearable length of the barbell that goes through your piercing. It’s measured from the top to the bottom of the straight post and does not include the decorative ends, balls, or charms. Selecting the correct length ensures a comfortable, secure fit that feels natural for everyday wear.

Gauge

The gauge refers to the thickness of the post that passes through your piercing. The higher the number, the thinner the post—a detail that often causes confusion for those new to fine body jewelry.

Our flat back studs are available in 18G, 16G, and 14G, each offering a range of wearable lengths to suit different piercings. Explore our body jewelry size guides and gauge conversion charts for help choosing the perfect fit.

It’s always best to consult with your local piercer to confirm your exact size before placing an order, ensuring a seamless and comfortable fit for your flat back jewelry.

How To Wear

Flat back studs are versatile pieces that can be worn in most cartilage, lobe, lip, and nose piercings. The flat disc backing is a great lip ring alternative to hoops since you can wear a variety of charms, gemstones and diamond stud options. Flat back earrings are also a good alternative to the traditional ball backing cartilage earring since it has a more discrete backing that doesn't stick out, plus it's more comfy.
