How to size a navel ring

A navel ring is a curved barbell — the top and bottom ends thread onto a gently curved post that follows the shape of your piercing. Two measurements make it fit right: gauge (the bar's thickness) and length (the wearable span between the two ends).

Gauge — the thickness of the bar

Navel piercings are almost always 14G (1.6mm), and the gauge should match what your piercer used so the jewelry sits securely. The scale runs in reverse — a smaller number is a thicker bar.

Length — the span between the ends

Length is measured along the bar between the inside of the two ends — not counting the gems or balls. 10mm (3/8") fits most healed navels; a fresh piercing is usually fitted a little longer to leave room for swelling, then sized down once it heals. Too long and the jewelry shifts or catches; too short and it can press in.

I bought this piece as a gift for my girlfriend. I was a little sceptical at first because its a fairly expensive piece of jewelry and I live in Canada and have problems with shipping across boarders on different sites in the past. However the piece looked lovely so I thought I’d take a chance. Complete honesty? I had a little shipping issue. It was no fault of fresh trends who did an excellent job of keeping me informed throughout each step of the belly rings creation and provided me with accurate tracking information. Somehow it just got jumbled in the shipping and ended up in Germany. That’s when I experienced the best customer service I’ve ever had in my life. I contacted freshtrends to explain to them that my package had been stuck in Germany and didn’t seem to be going anywhere. They sympathized and began making a new one right away! A year or two ago I bought a 14K yellow gold filigree zirconia belly ring. It’s my favorite, but I recently lost the ball that screws on. I dropped it in a small bathroom, and it disappeared! The toilet lid was closed, checked the wastebasket, and the bath rugs, nowhere to be found. I can’t use the ball from another one because of the weird connection, where the ball screws into the hollow stem. Please respond with information about the price of a replacement if I can get one.
