Day to Day Piercing Care - Do's & Don'ts
Here's some common sense info to help you through the healing process:
- While your piercing is healing, try not to touch it except when you're cleaning it, and always wash your hands thoroughly before touching it.
- Except when cleaning, there's no reason to rotate your piercing. You could damage the delicate, healing skin by rotating a dry piercing. When you clean it, the piercing is moistened and will move more freely. Rotate it gently to be sure it's getting completely cleaned, and rinse well. Other than that, leave it alone.
- Always be sure your bedding, and the clothes you sleep in are clean. Also make sure the clothes you sleep in are not likely to snag on your piercing, and avoid knitted blankets that can also snag and result in a very abrupt and uncomfortable awakening. Oh, and try not to sleep on your new piercing!
- It's generally accepted that healthy people heal faster, and are less prone to infection. This goes for piercings too! Eat well, drink lots of water, and cut down on stress. You can exercise, just remember to always shower immediately afterwards so that no grimy sweat gets into your piercing. Oh, and if you get hair conditioner in your new ear piercing, make sure to rinse it out thoroughly and follow up with your regular piercing aftercare routine.
