How to size a nose ring

A nose stud is defined by three things — its gauge (the bar's thickness), its backing style (how it stays in place), and its wearable length (the part that sits inside your piercing, which the style sets).

Gauge — the thickness of the bar

Most nose piercings use 20G (0.8mm) or 18G (1.0mm). Match the gauge to your piercing so the jewelry sits securely — the scale runs in reverse, so a smaller number is a thicker bar.

Backing style & length

The backing holds your stud in place, and it sets the wearable length:

  • Twist, Bone & L-Post — 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Flat Back — 18G, 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Straight Post — 3/8" (9mm), and can be bent to your fit
  • End Only — the decorative front on its own; a backing is sold separately

This is okay

I was so excited to recieve this but kind of dissapointed when I finally did. The stone is much smaller than my other jewelry that is 3mm and the metal around the stone covers a lot of it. It is a nice piece but I don’t think it’s worth what I spent on it!

Good piece except for one major flaw

I want to love this, I really, really do. The quality of the piece itself is great. So what is amiss? The ruby. It's pink. I hate pink rubies. They are low quality. I wish I would have known that before I purchased. The pictures, of course, show a nice, rich red Ruby, but in reality it's an inferior pink color. I know because I have two beautiful RED Burmese rubies in my engagement ring. If you don't mind pink rubies, it's great. I love the customization!

I got this for my boyfriend as a birthday gift and he loved it. Only reason i gave it 4 stars is because we had trouble getting the ring in. I know FT offers alterations but the bar could be a bit longer.

Ruby nose ring

I purchased this item a few weeks back and am extremely happy with it. What I love about working with Fresh Trends is that they have always been so willing to customize my purchases (this is definitely not my first purchase from Fresh Trends). I have not been able to find high quality body jewelry at the local malls or find jewelry that is appropriate for a mature adult. I check their site frequently to see their new offerings.
