How to size a nose ring

A nose stud is defined by three things — its gauge (the bar's thickness), its backing style (how it stays in place), and its wearable length (the part that sits inside your piercing, which the style sets).

Gauge — the thickness of the bar

Most nose piercings use 20G (0.8mm) or 18G (1.0mm). Match the gauge to your piercing so the jewelry sits securely — the scale runs in reverse, so a smaller number is a thicker bar.

Backing style & length

The backing holds your stud in place, and it sets the wearable length:

  • Twist, Bone & L-Post — 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Flat Back — 18G, 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Straight Post — 3/8" (9mm), and can be bent to your fit
  • End Only — the decorative front on its own; a backing is sold separately

Wish I Loved It More

When I saw that they carried a PINK diamond nose ring I knew I had to have it!! it seems there was a hold up with my order as I received an email informing me that the initial nose ring they received did not meet their standards and they were having it remade, which I appreciated. I finally received it. Sadly I don’t love it as much as I wanted to. I realize 2mm is very tiny and it’s really hard to see the color on the stone that small. I just don’t see any pink. And once it’s on, it just looks like a low color diamond and kind of loses its sparkle. I have other Freshtrends nose rings that I completely love. But for me, I’m sad to say this was not it. Also, the description states a bone style (which is what I got) is 6mm long but it feels longer than that. I have other bone style nose rings that are 6mm and they fit fine. This one is too long inside my nose making it a little uncomfortable, as well as it doesn’t fit snug and moves a lot making it stick out the top. I put it on hoping the color of the stone would like better once it was on, not realizing it would be too long. So now it is unable to be returned. My suggestion is to stick with a clear diamond.

The pink diamond nose stud says it has a prong setting, but is this not in the martini type setting to sit flush against the nose as the other diamond studs? Are we able to upgrade the diamond for a higher quality/clarity as well?
