How to size a nose hoop

A nose hoop is an open-ended ring for the nostril, sized by its diameter (the width across the ring) and its gauge (the wire's thickness).

Diameter — the width across the ring

6mm (1/4") sits close and snug to the nostril, 8mm (5/16") is the most popular all-around fit, and 9.5mm (3/8") hangs a little lower with more of the ring showing. Match the diameter of a hoop that already fits, or measure across the inside.

Gauge — the thickness of the wire

Nose hoops come in 20G (0.8mm) and 18G (1.0mm). Match the gauge to your piercing so the hoop passes through comfortably — the scale runs in reverse, so a smaller number is a thicker wire.
