How to size a nose ring

A nose stud is defined by three things — its gauge (the bar's thickness), its backing style (how it stays in place), and its wearable length (the part that sits inside your piercing, which the style sets).

Gauge — the thickness of the bar

Most nose piercings use 20G (0.8mm) or 18G (1.0mm). Match the gauge to your piercing so the jewelry sits securely — the scale runs in reverse, so a smaller number is a thicker bar.

Backing style & length

The backing holds your stud in place, and it sets the wearable length:

  • Twist, Bone & L-Post — 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Flat Back — 18G, 1/4" (6mm) wearable length
  • Straight Post — 3/8" (9mm), and can be bent to your fit
  • End Only — the decorative front on its own; a backing is sold separately

Love this nose ring!

I am giving this 5 stars because the quality and fit is seriously unbelievable. I got the bone style and it has never fallen out (though it does pull out when I wash my face, so I gotta be careful about that). If you want like a standard size, I think you'd be safer to choose the 2mm size. I didn't read the reviews or anything and normally I really do prefer small and discreet. I definitely got what I wanted! But next time, I do think I will get the 2mm just to see which one is more preferable for me. It really just comes down to your own personal taste!

I have purchased around 5 nose bones from Fresh Trends. I love the company! I usually buy 3 mm but I wanted to see what a 2 mm CZ looked like before I committed to a diamond that was 3 mm. I was pleased with the sparkle of the 2 mm. I had also purchased yellow gold rather than my usual white gold for the CZ. I love the yellow gold with the CZ, and will choose the same for my diamond. I will , however, most likely purchase my diamond in the 3 mm size since I want a more bold look. Would recomment the CZ to anyone!

I got the 1.5mm and it is very tiny. It looks good to me, but I wish they had a 2.0mm. Also, the prongs cover up most of the CZ. Additionally, the bone falls out easily. Next time I will get the screw shaped nose ring.
